Welcome to the NADTA 2024 Annual Conference

Welcome to Toronto, Canada!

With more than half of its population born overseas, Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. Whether you plan to explore museums and attractions, attend a festival, immerse yourself in live music and nightlife, or experience an international culinary scene – Toronto is ready to welcome you!

What is the meaning of Tkaronto?

The area now known as Toronto was originally called Tkaronto, a Kanien'keha'ka (Mohawk) word meaning "where trees are standing in the water." It referred to the area around Lake Simcoe, north of Toronto, where wooden fishing weirs were placed. Over time, this name evolved into Toronto.
